A Perfect Motivation!

I am grateful for this reminder of the importance of keeping a record of the Lord's hand in our life! I am excited to join!

In this talk, after pondering the sweet service of his father in law to his family President Eyring says he felt the Lord tell him,
"'I’m not giving you these experiences for yourself. Write them down.'" He then says,

"I went inside. I didn’t go to bed. Although I was tired, I took out some paper and began to write. And as I did, I understood the message I had heard in my mind. I was supposed to record for my children to read, someday in the future, how I had seen the hand of God blessing our family. Grandpa didn’t have to do what he was doing for us. He could have had someone else do it or not have done it at all. But he was serving us, his family, in the way covenant disciples of Jesus Christ always do. I knew that was true. And so I wrote it down, so that my children could have the memory someday when they would need it."

I love this excerpt from his talk because my family has pulled me through the greatest challenges I have experienced in life. I remember when I was having a difficult time in college and I went with mom and dad to spend Thanksgiving at Cindy's house. Dad had given me a blessing a few days before we left and told me that experiences I would have with my family would be healing to me. While at Cindy's, Hyrum asked me to write down my testimony for him to put in his scriptures...this wasn't by chance. I needed the opportunity to express what I knew and it was healing. As I wrote I felt the need to include that the strength that comes from an eternal family is real and will pull us through the difficult times in life. Later that weekend, I sat in Rachel's room and sang to her as she went to sleep. Singing the Primary Songs and realizing the Love of the Lord through music and through that little girl's sweetness as she sang along was healing. There were many other moments that came through family interaction that brought healing to me throughout that difficult time. To sum up my thoughts, I realize that sharing these experiences not only helps us solidify them in our memory, but also lifts and strengthens others. I feel that this is a true principle--that the Lord gives us expereinces not only for ourselves, but for others--particularly our families! I need my family, and I am so thrilled to read the posts and share with you all how the Lord has blessed me!

I love you!
